Wattpad allows you to add pictures and videos to your stories to help bring them to life!
There are two places you can put media:
- Header media: in the header of the story part (above the text)
- 1 photo and 1 video limit
- Inline media: in the text of the story part
- 20 photos or videos limit
Please note that images need to be in png, jpg, or jpeg format, and be under 10MB. If you're trying to add a gif, please make sure it's under 1MB. Unfortunately, at the moment, it's not possible to upload pdf or ppt files.
You can choose a picture from your computer or phone or take one on the spot, and you can add Youtube videos. You can also remove the media you’ve added at any time by following the steps in our article Removing media from story. Please make sure all of your images abide by our Content Guidelines.
Add header media
On iOS
- Tap the
Create button in the bottom menu bar - Navigate to your story and the story part
Adding a photo:
- Tap on the
Insert image button
OR
- If there is already a video, tap Edit on the right and select Add photo
- Select either Take Photo or Choose existing
Adding a video:
- Tap on the
Insert YouTube video button to add a YouTube video
OR
- If there is already a photo, tap
More button and select Add YouTube video
- Enter the video name or search term(s) in the search bar
- Tap on the video and press Add
On Android
- Tap on the Create button in the bottom menu bar
- Navigate to your story and the story part
Adding a photo:
- Tap on Tap to add media
OR
- If there is already a video present, tap the
More options button
- Select Add Photo
- Select a photo in your gallery
Adding a video:
- Tap on Tap to add media
OR
- If there is already a photo, tap the More options button
- Tap on Add YouTube video
- Enter the video name or search term(s) in the search bar
- Select the video and press Add
On Web
- Click Write in the navigation bar
- Navigate to your story and the story part
Adding a photo:
- Click the Insert image button above the text
OR
- If there is already a video, click on
Settings and select Add Photo
- Upload the image
- Click Add
Adding a video:
- Click on the Insert YouTube video button above the text
OR
- If there is already a photo, click on Settings and select Add YouTube video
- Paste in the URL of the Youtube video
- Click Add

On iOS:
Adding a photo:
- Tap on the spot you want to add media to
- Tap on the Insert image button in the toolbar
- Select either Take Photo or Choose existing
Adding a video:
- Tap on the spot you want to add media to
- Tap on the Insert YouTube video button in the toolbar
- Enter the video name in the search bar
- Select the video and tap Add
On Android
Adding a photo:
- Tap on the spot you want to add media to
- Tap on the Insert image button in the toolbar
- Select a photo from your gallery
Adding a video:
- Tap on the spot you want to add media to
- Tap on the Insert YouTube video button in the toolbar
- Enter the video name or search term(s) in the search bar
- Select the video and tap Add
On Web
Adding a photo:
- Click on the spot in the text where you want to add media (this must be a new line)
- Click the Insert image button on the left
- Select a photo from your computer
Adding a video:
- Click on the spot in the text where you want to add media
- Click the Insert YouTube video button on the left to add a YouTube video
- Paste in the URL of the video
Troubleshooting
Please note that images must be under 10MB and GIFs must be under 1MB. You can also only upload .jpegs, .pngs, and .gifs, and Wattpad will need permission to access your photos before you can upload. These permissions can be checked within your device settings.
