Changing your username

Your username is what identifies your account. Here are some of the uses of your username:

  • To search for your profile or stories you’ve written on Wattpad
  • To tag you in comments
  • To dedicate a story to you
  • To be able to delete a story you’ve written

Usernames are unique, so no two users have the same one.

This is different from your display name (also full name, or name), which appears only on your profile. Your display name does not need to be unique to you and can contain spaces or special characters. You can learn more about display names in this guide: Changing your display name.

Your username can be changed at any time, but you need to know your password to change it. If you’ve forgotten your password, please read this guide: Reset Password.

It must be between 6-20 characters long and can't have special characters (such as spaces or exclamation points).

When you change your username, all instances of it in comments, dedications, stories, etc. will be changed to your new username.

Please note, once you give up a username, it can be taken by someone else.
