Protecting Your Personal Information

Internet safety is a top priority and everyone should feel safe and secure whenever they use Wattpad. Privacy is important to those who wish to remain anonymous online, and no Wattpadder should ever feel obligated to reveal personal information. Don’t post personal information in your profile or works.

Wattpad will never ask its users for strictly confidential or sensitive information, such as your Social Insurance Number, nor will it send Private Messages on Wattpad or any other platform to request this type of information. Please also note that Wattpad will never request users to share their credit card details outside of the Wattpad website or app. Payment details may only be sought in connection to products or services provided on Wattpad, and only when users initiate a request to access such services.

Please be aware of sites claiming to be affiliated with Wattpad, asking users for this type of information. These sites or applications are in no way connected to Wattpad Corp. When in doubt, always reach out to our team directly.

Some other tips include: 

1. Wattpadders are empowered to use the mute and block functions to manage their communications with other users. These functions can be used to prevent communication between two Wattpadders. A muted Wattpadder cannot communicate with the person who muted them (through story comments, personal messages, or posts on their message board). For more information on the use and location of the mute function, check this guide. A blocked Wattpadder cannot communicate with the person who blocked them or read their stories. For more information on the use and location of the block function, check this guide. If another user is violating our Code of Conduct, you should report them here.
2. Never give out your account password. If you feel that your account has been compromised, please review our guide on How to Report a Hacked Account and send a ticket through here. Please explain the issue with as much detail as possible. One of our support staff will review the ticket and assist you direclty.
3. If anyone releases your personal information without your consent, contact them to have it removed. If you need additional support, submit report the user for 'Sharing/Release of Personal Information' and provide us a direct link to where your information appears within the story by responding to this email.

Examples of Personal Information include: Phone number, address/location, image and any other personal identifiers. 

Please keep in mind, due to the fictional nature of stories and the chances of real names being used coincidentally, we are unable to remove a work for having the same or similar name to a real person. Additionally Stories often draw from real life for inspiration, and sometimes they contain situations that happened in real life. Unfortunately, we cannot remove a story for containing scenarios that are similar to actual events.
