Supported languages on Wattpad

As of June 11, 2024, we’re shifting our focus to better serve our biggest global reading communities. As a result, writers will be able to choose from 25 languages globally, including English, Spanish, Indonesian, Arabic, BR Portuguese, Turkish, Tagalog, French, Vietnamese, Russian, Malay, Polish, Italian, German, Persian, Hungarian, Czech, Hebrew, Romanian, Greek, Hindi, Serbian, Dutch, Ukrainian and Slovak, or Other when they publish stories.

Users will also be able to set their display preferences in 18 languages globally, including Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Dutch, English, Filipino, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Malay, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

You will need to be on version 10.66.0 or newer of the Android or iOS apps to see the display language changes.

My story is not on the list of supported languages. Will it be removed? Can readers still discover and read my story?

  • Even if a story is no longer supported, it will not be deleted, nor will we prevent stories from being written in those languages. As of June 11, 2024 writers can choose “Other” from the list of story languages when publishing stories in unsupported languages.
  • As of June 11, 2024, stories in languages no longer supported by Wattpad will still be discoverable on profiles, reading lists, and in search, but will no longer show up on the home page or the “Browse tags” page.

Can I still read in my language?

  • As of June 11, 2024 stories in languages no longer supported by Wattpad will still be available, but will no longer show up on the home page or the Browse tags page.
  • You can still browse, search, and read stories in your language by setting your language preference to “Other”.

Why are you making this change?

  • We’re focusing our resources to better support our biggest global reading communities, creating opportunities for writers and nurturing fan communities worldwide.
  • We’ll continue to support our 25 most-used languages, representing more than 99% of all user activity on the platform.

I thought Wattpad was a place where anyone could belong. Why is Wattpad no longer supporting the languages I read/write in?

  • We understand that this change may directly affect you, especially if your story is currently in a language that will no longer be supported.
  • While we recognize the impact this may have, we believe that by focusing on our biggest global reading communities, we can create more opportunities for writers as we continue to foster vibrant fan communities around the world.

Can you add a translating feature/ I want to translate a story/ can we translate stories now that some/ my language is unsupported

  • Unfortunately, since stories are written by individual authors, we cannot translate their stories on their behalf.
  • The stories are written in the author's language of choice and is the author's decision if they wish to write it in another language.
  • If you wish to read stories in a certain language, you can change your discovery language settings using this guide.

When will my language be supported again?

  • The 25 languages we will continue to support represent more than 99% of the Wattpad content on the platform today. This change will allow us to focus our resources and better support our biggest global reading communities, creating opportunities for writers and nurturing fan communities worldwide.
  • At this time, we do not have plans to support additional languages. We welcome users to adapt existing content to one of the 25 languages that we support.
