Text-to-speech (TTS) is a type of assistive technology that reads digital text aloud. For those with visual impairment or difficulty reading, text-to-speech can be a useful tool for accessing the story. It can also make it easier to enjoy stories at your convenience, especially if you can’t give your full attention to a screen.
Text-to-speech is a beta feature on Wattpad and it was added to thousands of stories written in English. This allowed us to explore this feature and understand its potential to improve the reading experience on Wattpad.
We'll be rolling this feature out to additional English stories and exploring its potential to improve the reading experience for users. Please note that it’s also not possible for Wattpadders to add the #texttospeech tag to their stories as this tag is reserved for stories that had the feature enabled by us.
