How to submit logs with a bug report

We receive many bug reports from Wattpadder and we appreciate your help in making Wattpad more stable and usable. Bug reports that include logs are particularly useful. You can submit app logs through the Wattpad app, and you can submit web logs right here in the Help Center. 

What's in a log?

A log is a file of events that are logged by a software application such as a phone app or a browser. Logs contain errors, informational events, and warnings. They are useful for our developers when they are working to solve a bug. It's important for you to reproduce the issue before sending us the log. Otherwise, our developers won't be able to find the error.

What happens after I submit a log to Support?

Every bug found on Wattpad goes into our escalation process. You can learn more about that here: Wattpad Support’s Bug Escalation Process. If developers are already working on a bug, logs will help them find and fix the issue more quickly.  

How to send us logs on the iOS or Android app

  1. Log into the app and try to reproduce the issue again
  2. Go to Settings > Help & Support > Submit a ticket > My issue isn't listed > Select the appropriate category > Submit your Support request
  3. Describe your issue in the comment field. When you submit the Support request, your app logs will be attached automatically. 

How to download logs from your web browser to send with your Support request

In Google Chrome:

  1. Right-click on the webpage and select Inspect
  2. Along the top bar, click Network
  3. Once you have the Network tab open, reproduce the issue in Wattpad
  4. Click the downward arrow save the .har file to your computer
  5. Open our Support request submission page and attach the downloaded file to the request before submitting

In Safari:

  1. In the browser’s menu, select Develop  and Show Web Inspector
  2. Along the top bar, click Network
  3. Once you have the Network tab open, reproduce the issue in Wattpad
  4. Click Export in the top right corner and save the .har file to your computer
  5. Open our Support request submission page and attach the downloaded file to the request before submitting

In Firefox:

  1. Right-click on the webpage and select Inspect
  2. Along the top bar, click Network
  3. Once you have the Network tab open, reproduce the issue in Wattpad
  4. Click the gear icon in the top right of the Network window
  5. Select Save all as HAR, and save the .har file to your computer
  6. Open our Support request submission page and attach the downloaded file to the request before submitting

In Microsoft Edge:

  1. From the Edge menu, select More tools > Developer Tools.
  2. Select the Network tab.
  3. Click the green arrow to start recording the session. 
  4. Once you are recording, reproduce the issue in Wattpad
  5. Click the red arrow to stop recording the session.
  6. Select the save icon to export the recorded session to a HAR file.
  7. Open our Support request submission page and attach the downloaded file to the request before submitting

In Opera:

  1. Open the Opera menu icon and select Developer > Developer Tools
  2. Click the Network tab and check the box next to Preserve log
  3. Reproduce the issue in Wattpad
  4. Click the gear icon in the top right of the Network window
  5. Select Save all as HAR, and save the .har file to your computer
  6. Open our Support request submission page and attach the downloaded file to the request before submitting
